RS&H provided design services for the rehabilitation of 11 miles of Reagan Memorial Tollway (I-88), a 40-year-old roadway that plays a critical role within the local, regional, and statewide transportation system. The scope of work included designing the mainline roadway resurfacing, portions of mainline reconstruction, and mainline shoulder and interchange ramp reconstruction. RS&H’s efforts included drainage, erosion control, roadway lighting, pavement marking and signing, and ITS elements Our team included performance of quantity and cost calculations, plan assembly, quality assurance document control, and construction support services.
Value engineering services were provided on various aspects of the project to achieve cost savings for the client. The maintenance of traffic plan was iterated several times to eliminate unnecessary temporary pavements and temporary pavement marking. RS&H performed life cycle analysis for 18 structures, resulting in 11 rehabilitations, five reconstructions, and the removal of a pair of mainline bridges over an abandoned rail line be removed and replaced with an embankment. This recommendation was adopted and will save the client millions of dollars in present and future repairs.
