Scott Larsen Joins RS&H As Oregon Area Manager

Pacific Northwest native Scott Larsen recently joined RS&H, one of the nation’s leading engineering, architecture and consulting firms, as its Oregon Area Manager.

Scott brings varied, in-depth transportation, structural and aviation experience across the Pacific Northwest and throughout the world.

Pacific Northwest Roots & Global Reach

Scott, born and raised in Bellevue, Washington, and attended Gonzaga University, began his professional career with the Washington Department of Transportation (WSDOT) in the Eastern Region. He then moved to WSDOT headquarters, where he worked in the Bridges and Structure Office.

Scott later transitioned to the private sector, where he worked internationally, most recently in Saudi Arabia. There, he helped build whole cities from scratch, nurturing a holistic view of infrastructure and transportation and their relationship with the rest of the built – and natural – environment. While there he led a technical and management team comprised of experts from six nations to deliver a program in excess of $1 billion per year.

Over the course of his career across the public and private sectors, Scott has designed more than 100 bridges in Washington, Oregon and around the world. One of his favorite projects: a 1,500-meter main span suspension bridge in British Columbia.

Beyond his transportation projects, Scott also has expertise within the mass transit and aviation industries. Scott has worked on light rail expansion and seismic retrofit projects in San Jose and San Francisco. In addition, he worked at the McCarran International Airport (Nevada) for three years and worked at other airports in Oregon, Washington, California, Nebraska, Qatar and Oman.

Transportation and aviation have multiple points of crossover, including traffic management and freight mobility, so it’s helpful to have experience in both,” said Scott. “As we create urban designs for the future, both RS&H and I will leverage our cross-discipline expertise to serve clients holistically.”

RS&H’s services across six markets – Aerospace, Aviation, Corporate, Defense, Health & Science, and Transportation – will also allow Scott to tap into firmwide resources so that our clients receive the most innovative, cost-effective options.

Role for the Future

At RS&H, Scott is looking forward to continuing to build the future of the state in which his family has lived since 2008.

“My family lives here, so this is my community; I live right in the Portland metro area,” he said. “Wanting to do something for my community is important in my work.”

In his new role, Scott will expand RS&H’s existing 12-year presence in the Pacific Northwest, helping transportation and aviation agencies solve the challenges of tomorrow.

“I love this area because everyone is so dedicated to making the community and the world better,” said Scott. “That’s something that RS&H is invested in also.”

From increasing safety and reducing congestion to embracing all things alternative – alternative transportation systems, alternative revenue generation and alternative delivery – the Pacific Northwest has a lot of infrastructure opportunities ahead.

Scott and the rest of the RS&H team are excited to continue building the region’s bright future, one innovation at a time.
