RS&H Earns Society of American Military Engineers ‘Grand Award’

[Jacksonville, Fla.] The Society of Military Engineers (SAME) presented the employee-owned, national architecture, engineering, and consulting firm RS&H with a Grand Award for their design of the Lejeune High School Renovation and Addition at the 2024 Joint Engineer Training Expo & Conference.

Home of the Devilpups, Lejeune High School is located on Camp Lejeune Marine Corps Base and is charged with college and career readiness for its military-connected grades 9-12 students. Learning spaces at the high school were under-sized, had inadequate infrastructure, and didn’t meet the latest Department of Defense Education Activity education facilities specifications. The facility was in poor condition, and much of the equipment and building systems well-passed their life expectancy. 

The RS&H project team worked with students, teachers, and other stakeholders to provide complete facility programming, planning, engineering assessments, and preliminary and final design for the aging structure’s renovation and multiple new additions. Modernization of the campus resulted in the design and construction of new classrooms, science labs, an athletic center, a student commons/dining area, a kitchen, and JROTC, as well as a central energy plant. The project also achieved LEED Silver Certification.
