The National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) are an important piece of infrastructure management and ensure the safety of bridges across the country. NBIS inspections identify defects, prioritize repairs, and support owners with the financial management of their structural inventory. Attention to detail and well-documented reports are a necessity. Our processes align with the FHWA criteria. We review all aspects of the bridge and assign condition ratings and element condition states based on current conditions. Maintenance recommendations and load rating analysis accompany reports. We focus on safety and ensuring our clients have all the information they need to make sound decisions.
RS&H started small with a team of two inspectors and a project engineer. We took advantage of small contracts, specialty inspection assignments, and subcontracts to support our small team of inspectors. Our commitment to quality, our knowledge base, and our timely delivery of reports did not go unnoticed. RS&H was awarded a prime contract for TxDOT 2018 with a renewed award in 2022.
RS&H started conducting bridge inspections in Texas with a team of three, inspecting approximately 30 structures per month. We have since grown into a team of 20, managing 150-200 structural inspections annually nationwide.
RS&H has and continues to support other state agencies with structural inspections and detailed bridge condition surveys (scoping). We have supported the Michigan DOT with detailed inspections of large and segmental bridges, their ancillary inspection program, and in preparing rehabilitation strategies. RS&H also provided routine inspection services for North Carolina and has supported numerous agencies with specialized inspection of unique structures. For example, RS&H evaluated the Fort Lauderdale Airport runway bridge consisting of a three-foot-thick post-tensioned bridge deck and subsequent approaches. We use the challenges associated with unique structures as opportunities to improve our processes, educate staff, and build our team.
RS&H has a unique combination of home-grown team leaders supported by national bridge experts. We aim to continue providing bridge inspection services well into the next generation.
