RS&H led a team to provide design and construction phase services for multiple airfield and drainage improvements at Palm Beach International Airport. The existing airport layout, between the main runway and terminal complex, has several direct pathways from the terminal apron to Runway 10L-28R. RS&H developed a blended, cost-effective solution to modify airfield layout geometry to meet current FAA standards and avoid direct connections between the runway from the terminal apron.
The pavement of the existing remain overnight parking apron (RON) is being replaced with a larger RON apron optimized to accommodate larger aircraft to meet the future parking needs for the airport. Existing asphalt pavement on the terminal apron and several connecting taxiways is being rehabilitated with updates to existing geometry to meet current FAA standards. The project also includes a large drainage culvert to modify the current drainage system south of the terminal apron, which consists of a large open canal between the apron taxilane and Taxiway C. RS&H carefully specified culvert construction to use common Florida Department of Transportation precast sections, saving time and money.
